Vuci Village in Tokatoka Tailevu has crafted a strategic plan for the period from 2024 to 2028 aimed at enhancing resilience and empowering its traditional leadership for greater prosperity. Joji Butadroka, the Secretary and Board Member, highlighted the significance of a grassroots approach to development, which aligns with the government’s recent initiatives to decentralize decision-making.

Butadroka noted that the previous strategic plan offered valuable lessons for the village as it faced challenges from natural disasters, including cyclones and floods, as well as the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new five-year plan intends to reassess traditional leadership to ensure it is people-centered, and to cultivate an empowered and caring community that looks toward the future.

The Tui Vuci, Ratu George Kavoronavatu Bakosi, reiterated the focus on economic empowerment within the strategic framework. He emphasized the importance of directing resources to specific needs based on discussions with the government. Both leaders recognized that promoting local initiatives and effectively utilizing natural resources is critical for achieving economic growth and sustainable development in Tailevu.

This strategic planning is a hopeful step for Vuci Village, aiming to strengthen community resilience while fostering economic opportunities and sustainable practices. It reflects a commitment to empower individuals and ensure that the village can weather future challenges more effectively.

Overall, this initiative embodies a proactive approach where local voices are prioritized, setting a positive precedent for other communities looking to enhance their development strategies.
