Dance and events company VOU celebrated a significant victory at the 2024 Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (FETA), held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort in Denarau. This annual event brought together leaders from the tourism sector, government representatives, and operators to recognize the resilience and innovation within Fijian tourism.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, commended the industry for its vital role in strengthening Fiji’s economy, indicating that tourism accounts for nearly 40% of the country’s GDP and provides jobs for over 100,000 individuals. He highlighted the tremendous recovery of the sector, revealing that more than 900,000 visitors arrived in Fiji last year, contributing to total earnings of $3.3 billion. “We are not just back, we are stronger,” Gavoka stated, indicating the sector had not only rebounded but set new benchmarks for success.
Debra Sandranu, Chair of the FETA Board, emphasized that the awards celebrate the people behind the tourist experiences that keep visitors returning to Fiji. Sustainability was a central theme this year, with many winners recognized for their environmental initiatives, showcasing a growing trend towards responsible tourism practices.
VOU was awarded for the Experience & Attraction (VOU HUB for Arts, Culture and Activities) and Specialised Tourism Services (VOU Dance (Fiji) Ltd), underscoring its impactful contributions to Fiji’s cultural landscape.
