Nearly two years after the 2022 General Elections, there has been no significant update on the investigations regarding the controversial vote counting ‘glitch’ experienced during the electoral process. The Electoral Commission previously acknowledged the delays and emphasized their understanding of the government’s procedural requirements.
During a recent forum on cybercrime and electronic evidence held at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island Fiji, Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga noted that the investigation report is still under review considering recent developments. He indicated that he has been in discussions with the Electoral Commission Committee and is looking forward to further meetings with the Supervisor of Elections.
Mr. Turaga stated, “We have been having discussions and there are some primary decisions and primary findings that we have come to look into and it needs to be advanced further. Only when Cabinet is informed then we will be able to fully disclose.”
This indicates a commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process, suggesting that once the findings are finalized, the government will provide a thorough report to the public. It is hopeful to see the authorities taking steps to address past concerns, which is essential for rebuilding public trust in the electoral system.
The ongoing discussions reflect a constructive approach towards resolving issues from the past, and there is optimism that meaningful progress will be made soon.
