Nearly 23 months after the 2022 General Elections, there has been little progress reported regarding the investigations into the controversial vote counting “glitch” that occurred during the election process. The Electoral Commission had previously expressed their understanding of the government’s procedural delays in February.

During a recent forum on cybercrime and electronic evidence for Pacific Islands held at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island in Fiji, Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga addressed the ongoing investigation. He mentioned that the investigation report needs to be re-evaluated based on new developments.

“I have been in discussions with the Committee of the Electoral Commission, and I’m eager to convene another meeting with them and the Supervisor of Elections shortly,” Mr. Turaga stated. He highlighted that they have made some preliminary findings that require further exploration. However, he noted that full disclosure will only occur after the Cabinet has been informed.

The continued deliberation and advancements in this investigation underscore a commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process. While the delay in progress is concerning, it also presents an opportunity for thorough examination and improvement of electoral systems, which is essential for the integrity of future elections.

In summary, while the investigations into the alleged electoral glitch are still pending, officials are actively working towards resolving the matter and ensuring proper procedures are followed. This highlights a proactive approach towards establishing a more robust electoral framework.
