Volavola Takes Flight: New Chapter with Leicester Tigers

Ben Volavola, the former flyhalf for the Flying Fijians, has signed with the Leicester Tigers’ senior men’s team for the 2024/25 season. The club, competing in Premiership Rugby, announced the signing on Monday.

The Tailevu native is versatile, capable of playing both flyhalf and fullback. Throughout his career, he has participated in over 200 professional rugby matches, which include 38 Test appearances and two Rugby World Cup campaigns for Fiji.

Volavola has spent the past seven seasons playing in France for teams such as Racing 92, Perpignan, and most recently, Agen. Leicester Tigers’ head coach Michael Cheika expressed his satisfaction in acquiring a player with Volavola’s experience and skill.

“Ben’s understanding of northern-hemisphere rugby from his time in France is beneficial, and his international experience is invaluable. I know he’s a person of good character and will contribute positively to our environment,” Cheika stated.

Volavola expressed his enthusiasm about joining the club, stating he has been waiting for the right opportunity. “I am honored and excited to join this club and this talented group. I jumped at the chance to come to Leicester and I’m eager to see what we can achieve this season,” he said.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Volavola made his debut with the NSW Waratahs senior squad, which was also coached by Cheika, prior to the 2013 season after representing Australia U20s at the 2011 Junior World Championships.
