Volavola Takes Flight: Former Fiji Star Joins Leicester Tigers

Former Flying Fijians flyhalf Ben Volavola has officially joined the Leicester Tigers senior men’s squad for the 2024/25 season. The Premiership Rugby club confirmed the signing on Monday.

Volavola, hailing from Tailevu, is capable of playing both flyhalf and fullback. With over 200 professional rugby appearances to his name, he has earned 38 Test caps and participated in two Rugby World Cups for Fiji.

For the past seven seasons, he has been playing in France with teams such as Racing 92, Perpignan, and most recently, Agen. Leicester Tigers head coach Michael Cheika expressed his satisfaction in bringing a player of Volavola’s caliber into the team.

“Ben’s knowledge of northern-hemisphere rugby from his time in France is a plus, and his experience at the international level is invaluable. I know he’s a man of good character and will add value to our environment,” Cheika stated.

Volavola conveyed his enthusiasm about joining the club, saying he has been looking for the right moment to make the move. “I am honoured and excited to join this club and this talented group. I jumped at the chance to come to Leicester, and I’m excited to see what we can do this season,” he remarked.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Volavola first made his mark with the NSW Waratahs senior squad under the coaching of Michael Cheika, after representing Australia at the U20 level in the 2011 Junior World Championships.
