Voices Rising: Fiji Takes Center Stage at CHOGM 2024

Fijians will have the chance to voice their concerns regarding challenges faced alongside other Pacific Island nations during the upcoming 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place in Apia, Samoa.

At the opening of CHOGM, Samoan Prime Minister Fiame Mata’afa emphasized that representatives from Fiji and over fifty other island nations will engage in constructive dialogue and collaboration. The discussions will take place through forums for the people, youth, and women, ensuring that important perspectives are acknowledged.

Prime Minister Mata’afa highlighted that issues concerning children will be a key focus, noting that the youth “feel the hopes of our children rising with the changing tides.”

“This week offers a significant opportunity for meaningful dialogue and impactful collaboration within our Commonwealth family,” she stated. “Commonwealth youth embody the aspirations of our children, and their voices are vital in our discussions on prosperity, equality, and sustainable development.

“We must listen to the voices of the people.”
