Vodafone Fiji has announced that a recent unplanned outage impacted its e-Transport bus card top-up system, leading to significant disruptions for many commuters. This issue caused considerable frustration as numerous travelers found themselves unable to top up their cards during peak travel times, forcing them to rely on a single operational booth in adverse weather conditions. Social media discussions revealed that many waited in long lines only to be met with confusion and insufficient communication when the booth closed unexpectedly.
In response to the outage, Vodafone stated that the problems stemmed from a network connectivity issue that affected point-of-sale (POS) terminals. To mitigate future disruptions, the company has implemented offline top-up capabilities through EFTPOS terminals, allowing customers to top-up without internet access. They are rolling out a nationwide training program to equip top-up agents with the knowledge needed to facilitate this new system effectively.
In addition to stabilizing the current system, Vodafone is also committed to enhancing its services further. As part of its upgrades, the company plans to introduce QR payment options and a new e-Transport Mobile App that will enable users to top up their cards directly from NFC-enabled smartphones. These advancements aim to streamline the commuter experience, allowing even those without physical cards to access public transportation services seamlessly.
This proactive approach signifies Vodafone Fiji’s commitment to improving customer service and infrastructure reliability. By addressing immediate issues and facilitating convenient digital solutions, the company not only aims to enhance user satisfaction but also to ensure a more sustainable and efficient public transport system in the future.
The improvements being introduced highlight a promising future for public transport in Fiji, with an emphasis on convenience and accessibility for all commuters.
