Vodafone Fiji has pledged to enhance its resources and improve the rollout of the new e-Transport card system following a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications Manoa Kamikamica, amidst a wave of public complaints. Mr. Kamikamica met with Vodafone officials, including CEO Elenoa Biukoto and COO Rajnesh Prasad, to address escalating frustrations from the public regarding the service.

In response to these concerns, Vodafone has committed to increasing resources and facilitating a more efficient card registration process. Plans include utilizing larger venues like town halls to manage long lines and ensuring that requirements for the new card are prominently displayed to minimize confusion. Priority lines for elderly citizens and individuals with disabilities will also be implemented to ensure better accessibility.

Despite these proactive measures, incidents of distress among elderly citizens in queues highlight the urgency of the situation. Reports of people fainting due to long wait times have raised serious questions about the adequacy of the plans. Critics are voicing concerns about the system’s lack of foresight and empathy, prompting a close monitoring of the rollout by the Ministry and the Consumer Council of Fiji.

Mr. Kamikamica has urged the public to report any issues directly to Vodafone through its toll-free number or email. He assured citizens that resolving these issues is a priority and promised that remedial actions will be taken swiftly to enhance the overall experience for commuters.

Reflecting on previous disruptions, it is hopeful that the current changes will lead to an improved public transportation system in Fiji, with enhancements designed not just for efficiency but also for user satisfaction. The ongoing collaboration between Vodafone, the government, and consumer advocacy groups underscores a collective commitment to creating a more user-friendly environment for all Fijians. With the right adjustments and community engagement, this endeavor could pave the way for a more reliable and accessible public transport framework moving forward.
