Vivian Koster, the former CEO of Netball Fiji, has been elected as the new Oceania Regional Director for the World Netball Board, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career in sports administration. Koster’s new role, which comes through her election by the Oceania Netball Federation, will see her serve a four-year term on the World Netball Board, where she aims to be a strong advocate for the region’s interests.

Koster takes over the position from the late Wainikiti Bogidrau, a revered figure in netball circles who tragically passed away earlier this year. With more than 20 years of experience in sports administration, Koster is well-equipped to build on Bogidrau’s legacy. Her career is decorated with academic achievements, including a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Policy and Administration and a Master of Arts from the University of the South Pacific.

Reflecting on her new appointment, Koster expressed immense gratitude for the support from Oceania Netball and underscored the importance of her predecessors’ contributions, particularly Bogidrau’s. She emphasized her commitment to promoting the voices of all members, especially those striving against the odds to advance netball in more challenging environments.

During her tenure as the first Chief Executive Officer of Netball Fiji, from 2021 to 2024, Koster faced significant challenges, including navigating the organization through a transitional period marked by the postponement of major events like the Pacific Series. Her leadership alongside strategic initiatives, like the incorporation of a new coach, aimed to bolster the future of netball in Fiji amidst various organizational hurdles.

Koster’s election represents a period of hopeful transition and rejuvenation within Oceania Netball. With her strong foundation and commitment to inclusive representation, there is optimism that her tenure will bring constructive developments to netball in the region, providing enhanced platforms for players and a fortified presence on the global sporting stage. The netball community anticipates that her insights and experience will serve not only to honor the legacy of her predecessor, Bogidrau but also to usher in a promising era for Oceania netball.
