Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Fun Center (okay, it’s actually the Forecasting Centre Nadi, but who doesn’t love a little humor?) at 10:45am on Sunday, February 8, 2026!
Good news, everyone! The heavy rain alert that had the whole Fiji group shaking in their rain boots is now a thing of the past. Please take a moment to do a happy dance while enjoying your favorite drink.
However, don’t toss your raincoat just yet! The flash flood alert for Viti Levu is still hanging around like that one friend who never knows when to leave a party. If you want more details, please refer to the Special Weather Bulletin (because nothing says fun like official documents) at https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts/.
Here’s the scoop: A crafty little trough of low pressure is just west of Viti Levu, while another slightly weaker troublemaker is lurking over the eastern side of Vanua Levu. These sneaky clouds and showers plan to hang out in our lovely country until today—guess they enjoy our scenery!
What to expect until midnight tomorrow for Fiji:
Occasional showers and possibly a few fireworks without the fun (isolated thunderstorms) are expected over the eastern part of Viti Levu, spanning from Greater Suva/Nausori to Naitasiri and Serua-Namosi all the way to the picturesque Coral Coast. More showers are also in store for Southern Bua, Eastern Cakaudrove provinces, Lau, Lomaiviti group, Kadavu, and their delightful island buddies.
Everywhere else, expect some cloudy moments, with afternoon or evening showers and a few spicy thunderstorms to liven things up! Be warned: localized heavy falls could make certain spots feel like they’re auditioning for a role in a reality show called “Flood Zone.”
Winds will be moderate to fresh out of the east to northeast—think of them as that enthusiastic friend who gets a little gusty when it’s heavy and stormy. And seas? Moderate to rough; perfect for those seeking a thrill on the high seas!
Looking ahead to Tuesday: More cloudy moments with a sprinkle of showers and a possible thunderous encore for the eastern side of Viti Levu. Elsewhere, it might just be absolutely lovely, except for brief afternoon showers.
