A suspect has been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of rape related to an incident involving Virgin Australia cabin crew in Nadi. The individual, now in police custody, is scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrate Court on Monday.
The alleged incident took place during a layover in Nadi. While specific details remain undisclosed, authorities assured that the investigation is being conducted with urgency and care.
Virgin Australia has expressed its full support for the affected crew member, highlighting the airline’s commitment to their safety and well-being. The airline stated, “We are cooperating fully with Fijian authorities to support the investigation and provide assistance to our team member.”
As preparations are made for Monday’s court appearance, the suspect remains in custody. Meanwhile, the crew members involved have returned to Australia. A female crew member, who was allegedly assaulted, flew back on Friday, while her male colleague returned on Thursday after receiving treatment for facial injuries. Five other crew members are still in Fiji to assist with the ongoing investigation, following guidelines provided by their airline headquarters.
This incident, while deeply troubling, underscores the importance of support for victims and the commitment of authorities to ensure justice is served. The swift actions taken by both the airline and law enforcement reflect a community’s determination to address such serious matters. Further updates on the case are expected after the court proceedings on Monday.
