A man in his 40s is under police questioning following a tragic domestic violence incident in Nadi, where a woman in her 20s was found with stab wounds in her home on Kerebula Road. It is reported that she suffered from injuries inflicted by her partner and later succumbed to her wounds. The suspect has since been arrested and is currently assisting authorities with the investigation.

This unfortunate event is part of a troubling pattern, as there were three domestic violence cases reported over the recent weekend, leading to two deaths and leaving one woman severely injured. The increasing rate of such incidents has raised significant concerns within the community.

The Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection has highlighted the alarming prevalence of violence against women in Fiji, emphasizing that nearly two out of three women experience physical or sexual violence throughout their lives. They have called for immediate action from all sectors of society to combat this crisis and support victims.

Minister Lynda Tabuya has urged individuals and communities to unite against domestic violence, reiterating that support resources, such as the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and the National Domestic Violence Helpline, are available for those in need. The newly established Fiji National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against All Women and Girls aims to address these ongoing issues comprehensively.

In light of these incidents, it is crucial for communities to work together to foster safe environments for all women and girls, ensuring that no one has to endure the fear or experience of violence.
