Vinod Patel has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots rugby in Ba by renewing its sponsorship agreement with the Ba Rugby Union (BRU). This partnership introduces two exciting competitions: the Vinod Patel Cup for the Premier 16 teams and the Inox Trophy for lower division teams, both aimed at enhancing rugby engagement within local communities.
Gaby Kautoga, the Secretary of BRU, emphasized the significance of club rugby as a foundation for community engagement, stating, “Club rugby is why we are here – to engage the villages from around the province and to bring communities together.” He expressed gratitude to Vinod Patel for this vital support, which is crucial for the ongoing development of rugby at the grassroots level.
Rahul Amin, CEO of Vinod Patel, echoed this sentiment by highlighting rugby’s deep cultural roots in Fiji. He expressed excitement about partnering with the BRU to empower local communities and nurture emerging talent through these competitions. This investment aims to create a platform for local athletes, helping to shape the future of Fijian rugby.
Notably, Kautoga announced that the BRU has welcomed nearly 40 teams for this year’s club championships, indicating growing enthusiasm and participation. The tournament will officially kick off on March 15, starting later than originally planned.
The launch event for the Vinod Patel Cup and the Inox Trophy will include a march of team captains, scheduled to take place from Varoka Police Post along Main Street to the Vinod Patel store, showcasing the community spirit and support for local rugby.
Such initiatives not only help in alleviating financial pressures associated with running the union, as seen in previous challenges related to expenses and match hosting, but they also foster inclusivity and provide young athletes with the opportunities they need to thrive in the sport. The investment in grassroots rugby reflects a hopeful future for the sport in Fiji, promoting unity and development in local communities.
