The Vinod Patel Dormitory at Ba Methodist High School has reached a significant milestone, with Under 18 boys beginning to settle into their new living environment. According to BRU Secretary Gaby Kautoga, ten boys have already moved in, with another ten expected to join them on Monday. The dormitory, although still in the process of enhancements like window screens, is now deemed habitable.
A blessing ceremony was held last Tuesday to celebrate the completion of the building and express gratitude to everyone involved in the project. Kolaia Caucau, interim chair of the Ba Rugby Referees Association, has been appointed as the head of the dormitory, reinforcing the strong ties to the sport of rugby within the community.
In a remarkable show of support, numerous companies and individuals have stepped forward to provide educational scholarships for the boys residing in the dormitory. Kautoga indicated that the fees for the dormitory, set at $500 per term, cover all meals. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, ex-scholars, and community members, the organization has successfully secured funding for all 20 available spots in the dormitory. Plans are also underway to add two additional places for aspiring referees.
A initiative aimed at ensuring that no player from remote areas leaves the program due to financial constraints, covers all boarding fees. Additionally, day scholars enrolled in the program have been provided vouchers for essential items, including uniforms, equipment, and school supplies.
The official inauguration of the dormitory will take place once all preparations are finalized, in collaboration with the sponsors, Vinod Patel. This project not only reflects the commitment to supporting young athletes but also paves the way for future opportunities and development within the local rugby community.
