In a proactive effort to strengthen family ties and address social issues, Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga, has introduced new regulations designed to confront the challenges facing his community. These measures aim to foster a more supportive and cohesive environment in Sabeto.

Ratu Viliame has implemented a kava consumption ban starting from midnight on Saturdays until 6pm on Sundays, encouraging residents to focus on family engagement and attend church services. He emphasized that this initiative is a part of a broader strategy to enhance community unity and combat the rising drug crisis.

“This decision is about ensuring that we spend quality time with our families and focus on the things that truly matter,” Ratu Viliame highlighted. He pointed out that with modern life’s increasing pressures, it is essential for the community to reconnect with their cultural and spiritual roots.

Additionally, the new regulations also include a restriction on vehicle movement in the village from 10pm to 5am. This measure aims to decrease drug-related activities that commonly occur during late-night hours. Ratu Viliame hopes that controlling access during these times will help create a safer environment for all residents.

Ratu Viliame’s leadership highlights a commitment to tackling multiple pressing issues, including food security and poverty alleviation, while emphasizing the safety of women and children. Moreover, he advocates for community self-reliance through initiatives like encouraging local food production to combat rising living costs.

While emphasizing community-driven solutions, Ratu Viliame also recognizes the need for formal legal authority to enforce these initiatives. He has been a strong proponent of creating village by-laws to empower local leaders in managing community affairs, particularly concerning drug abuse and social disorder.

“I am pleased that this topic was discussed during the recent GCC meeting and hope to see further progress in this regard,” he expressed, showing optimism for future developments in regulating community issues through legal frameworks.

These initiatives reflect a hopeful vision for the Sabeto community, where unity and proactive measures can contribute to a healthier and safer environment for all families.

Overall, Ratu Viliame’s measures illustrate a forward-thinking approach that encourages social responsibility and community cohesion.
