The Village Boys youth team is gearing up for their debut at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament, which is set to take place next week. This promising team, hailing from the Suva area, comprises young talents from Naitasiri, Tailevu, Vanua Levu, and Namosi, all eager to establish themselves in the dynamic world of rugby sevens.

Competing in Pool D, the Village Boys will face formidable opponents including the Japan Under-18 team, Star Hospitality, and the Navala Rugby Youth team. Head coach Epeli Matata expressed excitement and some trepidation about the upcoming competition, acknowledging the challenge posed by international teams.

Matata emphasized, “It’s a tough pool since we have overseas teams coming into the tournament. This being our first Coral Coast sevens, our objective is to finish on a high note.”

The Village Boys have already made a significant impact in the Fiji Bitter Sevens series, emerging as champions at previous tournaments in Levuka, Nacula, and Malake, demonstrating their potential and competitive spirit.

The tournament will feature several pools for both youth and men’s categories, illustrating a wide range of teams eager to showcase their skills.

This event is an excellent opportunity for the Village Boys to shine on a larger stage and make their mark in rugby sevens, potentially paving the way for careers in the sport. The atmosphere is expected to be electrifying, with numerous teams aiming to prove their mettle, making this a must-watch tournament for rugby fans.

Optimistically, this competition not only emphasizes the talent emerging from Fiji but also highlights the supportive community nurturing these young athletes as they work towards their dreams of rugby greatness.
