The Village Boys youth rugby team is preparing to make their debut at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament next week. This Suva-based squad is made up of young talents from Naitasiri, Tailevu, Vanua Levu, and Namosi, all eager to establish themselves in the sport of rugby sevens.
Competing in Pool D, the Village Boys will face stiff competition from teams including the Japan Under-18 side, Star Hospitality, and the Navala Rugby Youth team. Head coach Epeli Matata acknowledges the challenge ahead, noting, “It’s a tough pool since we have overseas teams coming into the tournament.” He expressed the team’s desire to make a strong showing in their inaugural Coral Coast 7s, aiming to “finish on a high.”
The Village Boys have demonstrated their potential in previous tournaments, having secured championship titles at the Levuka, Nacula, and Malake 7s in the Fiji Bitter Sevens series.
