The Village Boys youth team is gearing up for their debut at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens, set to take place next week. This Suva-based team comprises young talents hailing from Naitasiri, Tailevu, Vanua Levu, and Namosi, all of whom are eager to make their mark in the rugby sevens arena.

The team has been placed in Pool D alongside Japan Under-18, Star Hospitality, and the Navala Rugby Youth team. Head coach Epeli Matata expressed excitement and anticipation for what he described as a challenging three-day competition, noting, “It’s a tough pool since we have overseas teams entering the tournament.” The coach aims for the team to finish strong despite the tough competition.

Notably, Village Boys has already achieved success, being crowned champions at the Levuka, Nacula, and Malake 7s in the Fiji Bitter Sevens series. This prior success could potentially motivate them to perform well in the Coral Coast 7s.

The anticipation surrounding this tournament not only marks a significant opportunity for the young athletes to showcase their skills but also emphasizes the growing popularity of rugby sevens in Fiji, often viewed as a breeding ground for future talent. With this platform, the players could inspire each other and future generations, driving the spirit of the sport further.

In summary, the Village Boys’ first appearance at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens is not just an opportunity to compete, but also a moment for the young players to gain invaluable experience and possibly pave their way in the sport. The tournament promises to be an exciting event, filled with potential and hope for the future of rugby in the region.
