The Village Boys rugby team is gearing up for the highly anticipated 2025 McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, which is set to take place from next Thursday to Saturday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. This year, the team is one of the 16 youth teams competing in Fiji’s premier sevens event.

In preparation for the tournament, the Village Boys have been training diligently at the YMCA gym in Suva. While the team has faced some challenges in recruiting players after the festive season, vice-captain Tevita Driwa remains optimistic. He noted that some members are expected to join the squad later in the week, and despite the current headcount, the spirit within the committed players remains high.

Driwa emphasized their determination, stating that players from various regions unite in this team, all focused on a common goal: winning. He expressed confidence in their abilities and confirmed that they will approach their matches, including potential showdowns with the defending youth champions, Dominion Brothers, without intimidation. The team’s aim is to utilize their strengths effectively, stick to their game plan, and strive for victory in the youth division.

The Village Boys showcased their skill and determination by winning the youth division at the Fiji Bitter Nacula Yasawa 7s tournament in Lautoka in December 2024 and reaching the semi-finals at the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s in Taveuni shortly afterward.

With their eyes set on success at the Coral Coast 7s, the Village Boys are not only preparing for competition but also embodying the spirit of resilience and teamwork that rugby represents. Their journey serves as a testament to the power of dedication and collaboration in achieving goals, offering hope for the future of youth rugby in Fiji.

In summary, the Village Boys rugby team is preparing for a crucial tournament with a focus on teamwork, resilience, and the ambition to win, bringing a positive outlook to their participation in the Coral Coast 7s.
