The Police M-PAiSA Task Force is stepping up its efforts to tackle an alarming increase in scams targeting users of the M-PAiSA platform, particularly during the distribution of the government’s $200 Back to School Assistance funds. Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, has issued a strong warning to parents and guardians, urging them to remain vigilant during this financially sensitive time.
Commissioner Chew emphasized that it is crucial for adults to personally handle financial transactions and not to delegate these responsibilities to children or unaccompanied individuals. He warned that scammers are often present at busy locations, looking for opportunities to exploit unsuspecting families. “You don’t know who is at the sidelines exploring the opportunity to steal information or money,” he cautioned, underscoring the importance of adult supervision in maintaining financial security.
The Acting Commissioner also pointed to the vulnerabilities associated with online financial interactions, advising individuals to be cautious about sharing sensitive personal information such as Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) and passwords. The recovery process from scams can be lengthy and often requires significant assistance from law enforcement, making prevention critical.
