“Victorious Fiji 7s Squads: Homecoming Celebrations Unveiled”

Plans are underway to celebrate the Fiji 7s team’s silver medal win at the 2024 Olympic Games when they return to the country. The team is expected to arrive on Sunday, August 4, along with the Fijiana 7s team.

Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) interim chair Peter Mazey mentioned that they are collaborating with the Fiji Government for the celebration arrangements. He confirmed that they depart on August 2 and will arrive on August 4. He also noted that the Minister of Youth and Sports is already on his way back to Fiji to welcome both teams.

While celebration plans are being made, FRU recognizes the players’ need to spend time with their families after a long period in camp. Mazey stated, “They need a break but then of course we get ready for the next round in November.”

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka had previously announced cash incentives for all Team Fiji athletes who secure a podium finish in France. The Fiji 7s players, coaches, and management will receive $20,000 for their silver medal finish, a reward endorsed by the Cabinet. This silver medal represents Fiji’s second-best achievement at the Olympics, following their previous two gold medals, and is also the first silver medal win for Team Fiji at the Olympic Games.

The Fijiana team, who finished third and won a bronze medal at the last Olympics in Tokyo, will also be returning on Sunday. Both teams will arrive from Paris.
