A magistrate has announced that the prosecution can request a female magistrate to oversee the case of a woman whose intimate videos were allegedly published online by her husband. The presiding magistrate, Yogesh Prasad, indicated that if the victim feels uncomfortable with a male magistrate during the trial, her case could be transferred before it commences.
The husband, a businessman, faces 12 charges related to the unauthorized posting of intimate recordings of his 37-year-old wife on a pornographic website, alongside one count of criminal intimidation. The victim became aware of the videos and promptly reported the incident to the Police Cybercrime unit. The accused entered a not guilty plea on August 26 of the previous year.
The trial is scheduled to take place in closed court from April 22 to 25 this year. The defense lawyer did not raise any objections regarding the State’s intent to present the videos in court. The accused has been granted bail, and the case has been adjourned until April 22.
This situation underscores the judicial system’s efforts to safeguard the rights and comfort of victims in sensitive cases. It also highlights the growing recognition of the need for sensitivity towards victims’ feelings in the courtroom, as they navigate the emotional toll of such distressing circumstances. The legal avenues available provide hope that justice will be served accurately and compassionately.
