Veiyasana Providers has emerged as the new champions of the Fiji Sports Council Under-20 sevens tournament, clinching the title in the Suva leg after a thrilling 12-10 victory against Ca’au on Saturday. Coached by Sireli Bobo, this resilient team exceeded expectations by defeating the tournament favorites to secure their place in the Cup final.
In an interview with SUNsports, Bobo expressed gratitude for the tough competition and praised his players for surpassing his expectations. Remarkably, they assembled a full-strength team only hours before the tournament began, consisting of players from Ba River, the High-Performance Unit, Queen Victoria School, and Nabua. This diverse lineup was created to offer opportunities to players who felt sidelined in other teams.
With their goal set on victory, Bobo remarked, “Slaying the giants is what this team is known for, and I believe we did just that.” The team showcased their prowess by overcoming QVSOB in the quarterfinals with a close 14-12 scoreline, followed by a gripping 12-7 defeat of Village Boys in the semifinals. As the tournament progressed, the players began to develop strong combinations, contributing to their success.
Bobo noted the importance of the series for young rugby players, providing a critical platform for emerging talent to shine. He also anticipated that next year’s competition would be even larger, with more teams participating.
The tournament also featured various finals, with the results as follows:
– Men’s U20 Shield Final: Lami Cavaliers 10-0 Untouched Fiji
