Veiyasana Providers emerged victorious in the Fiji Sports Council Under-20 sevens tournament held in Suva, clinching the championship title by defeating the favored Ca’au team 12-10 on Saturday. Coached by Sireli Bobo, the team faced significant challenges but ultimately prevailed, highlighting their resilience and skill throughout the competition.

Bobo expressed gratitude for the competitive experience, mentioning how surprisingly well the players performed given that they fielded a complete side only hours before the tournament began. The squad consisted of talented players from several regions, including Ba River, the High Performance Unit, Queen Victoria School, and Nabua. Bobo noted that the formation of Veiyasana Providers came from a desire to provide opportunities for players who had limited chances to showcase their abilities.

The journey to the final was marked by notable victories, including a thrilling 14-12 upset against QVSOB in the quarterfinals and a hard-fought 12-7 win over Village Boys in the semifinals. As the tournament progressed, the team displayed remarkable chemistry, contributing to their successful campaign.

Bobo emphasized the importance of such competitions, stating, “The series provides a platform for young ruggers to show what they can do; it always gives exposure to our rising stars.” He also acknowledged the participation of various Under-20 teams, expressing optimism for a larger competition next year with even more teams joining.

The final results of the other matches included both Men’s and Women’s categories, showcasing a diverse competition across various teams.

This achievement signals a promising future for the Veiyasana Providers and its players, as events like these foster talent development and allow young athletes to shine on a larger stage. The excitement and camaraderie showcased in the tournament inspire hope for the growth of rugby in Fiji and the continued success of its young athletes.
