Veiyasana Providers have emerged victorious in the Fiji Sports Council Under-20 sevens tournament held in Suva, claiming the championship title after a narrow 12-10 win over Ca’au. Coached by Sireli Bobo, this underdog team defied expectations and overcame the tournament favorites to secure their place in the Cup final.

Bobo expressed his gratitude for the chance to compete and emphasized the remarkable effort displayed by his team. “The boys played beyond what I had expected,” he noted, highlighting the challenges faced as they assembled a complete team just hours prior to the competition.

Comprising players from various local teams, including Ba River, High Performance Unit, Queen Victoria School, and Nabua, the Veiyasana Providers were formed to provide opportunities for players who were previously overlooked. Bobo remarked on their ambitious goal: “We came here with a goal, and that is to win. Slaying the giants is what this team is known for, and I believe we did just that.”

Their path to victory included a thrilling 14-12 upset against QVSOB in the quarterfinals and a close 12-7 win over Village Boys in the semifinals. As the tournament progressed, the players’ teamwork improved, reflecting the series’ purpose of showcasing young talent and providing valuable exposure.

Bobo acknowledged the efforts of all participating teams and anticipates an even larger competition next year, promising more opportunities for young athletes to shine.

In addition to the main highlights, the tournament featured several other exciting matchups:
