Vatuwaqa Triumphs in Thrilling Tui Suva Shield Comeback!

After a 14-year hiatus, the Tui Suva Shield competition resumed with exciting action as defending champion Vatuwaqa triumphed over Suvavou in a nail-biting final, winning by a score of 17-14.

The match began energetically, with Vatuwaqa’s Eroni Tetevi scoring the first try, although it was not converted. Suvavou responded quickly, as Semi Niubalavu scored a converted try, putting them ahead with a 7-5 lead.

As the second half unfolded, both teams increased their intensity. Suvavou managed to pull ahead with another try, extending their lead to 14-5. However, Vatuwaqa fought back as Setareki Waqa made an impressive break and scored a try, narrowing the score.

In the final moments, Saula Savou secured the win for Vatuwaqa by scoring a try under the posts.

Following the historic win, Vatuwaqa’s head coach Savenaca Kaunisela expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment and the importance of recapturing the title after so many years. He reflected on the significance of this victory, not only for the current team but also for those who had participated in the competition in the past.
