Vanuatu launched its 2026 World Cup Qualifiers campaign at VFF Freshwater Stadium in Port Vila with a decisive 4-1 victory over Samoa.

Coached by Juliano Schmeling, Vanuatu began the match aggressively, securing an early lead just seven minutes in, thanks to experienced striker Alex Saniel.

Captain Brian Kaltak assisted quick-footed John Alick in the 37th minute, extending Vanuatu’s advantage to 2-0 as they headed into halftime.

Samoa managed to score in the 55th minute against the run of play. Substitute striker Nathan Viliamu capitalized on a counterattack initiated by Dauntae Mariner, outpacing the defense to calmly slot the ball into an empty net past the advancing goalkeeper.

However, Vanuatu quickly responded, with Alick scoring their third goal just two minutes later. The team maintained its offensive pressure, creating numerous opportunities before Bong Kalo sealed the match with a stunning strike from outside the box in injury time.

Both teams will be back in action during the November FIFA international window, facing off in Group B matches against New Zealand and Tahiti in Hamilton and Auckland.
