Vanuatu Declares State of Emergency After Earthquake Devastation

A State of Emergency has been issued by the President of Vanuatu, His Excellency Moli Nikenike Vurobaravu Moliunavanua, in response to the significant devastation caused by the earthquake that struck on December 17, 2024. The President announced this declaration to address the severe impacts felt in the areas most affected.

This decision falls under the presidential powers outlined in subsection 32 (1) of the Disaster Risk Management Act No. 23 of 2019. The State of Emergency will remain in effect for a duration of seven days from the issuance of the order.
