A State of Emergency has been announced by Vanuatu’s President, His Excellency Moli Nikenike Vurobaravu Moliunavanua, in response to the significant damage caused by an earthquake that struck on December 17, 2024. The declaration encompasses the most severely affected regions of the country.
President Moliunavanua made this pronouncement while exercising his authority under the Disaster Risk Management Act No. 23 of 2019, specifically citing subsection 32 (1). The State of Emergency will remain in effect for seven days from the date the order was issued.
