A State of Emergency has been announced by Vanuatu’s President, His Excellency Moli Nikenike Vurobaravu Moliunavanua, in response to the significant damage caused by the earthquake on December 17, 2024. This declaration comes as a precautionary measure to address the urgent needs of the most severely affected regions in Vanuatu.
The president invoked his authority under subsection 32 (1) of the Disaster Risk Management Act No. 23 of 2019 to implement this declaration, which will remain in effect for seven days from the issuance date.
