Vanuabalavu Triumphs in Nail-Biting Koroturaga Clash!

The Vanuabalavu team delivered an impressive performance, clinching a thrilling 22-16 win over Covenant Red during round nine of the FMF Suva Rugby Union Koroturaga competition yesterday.

The match took place at Suva Grammar grounds, where both teams showcased strong defensive strategies in the first half, resulting in a narrow lead for Vanuabalavu at 10-8.

In the second half, Covenant Red made a strategic play with Lock Pio Nasau’s penalty kick, briefly taking the lead at 11-10. However, Vanuabalavu quickly countered with two remarkable tries, increasing their advantage to 22-11. Though Covenant Red fought back with a late try, it was not enough, and Vanuabalavu sealed their victory at 22-16.

Vanuabalavu’s head coach, Niumaia Serevi, praised both sides for their performance, particularly acknowledging Covenant Red for their formidable effort. “It was really a great game; Covenant really gave us a great game,” noted Serevi.

He reflected on the intense first half and emphasized the need to retain possession and focus on defense as they entered the second half. “Our set pieces were lacking, and that’s an area we need to improve on in our next match,” he added.

Additionally, Serevi expressed gratitude to the team, supporters, parents, and fans for their unwavering encouragement, dedicating the victory to everyone who has supported the team throughout their journey.
