The Vanua o Bau has taken a decisive step to combat drug use within its community, with the chief and three Liuliu ni Yavusa endorsing a strict policy that mandates the removal of any individual found consuming or selling illegal narcotics. This move reflects a firm commitment to maintaining a drug-free environment.
Turaga na Tunitoga, Ratu Aisea Komaitai, who serves as the spokesman for the chiefs, stated that this measure has now been incorporated into the village by-laws, reinforcing the community’s zero-tolerance stance towards drug-related activities. Ratu Aisea emphasized that the Vanua o Bau has been proactive in educating its members about the dangers associated with hard drugs, using various platforms to spread awareness.
“We have been preaching, lecturing, advising, and informing our youths and the younger generation about the harsh realities of drugs,” Ratu Aisea explained. He highlighted the importance of understanding the negative impacts drugs can have on individuals and the community as a whole.
The chief reaffirmed that the use and trade of drugs are strictly prohibited in all villages and settlements under their jurisdiction. He also promised that law enforcement would be involved in cases where offenders need to be dealt with, stating, “You will be removed from the villages and its settlements.”
This robust stance against drug use demonstrates the Vanua o Bau’s dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its community and nurturing a healthier, more informed generation.
