Vani Dianilawe Tobakarakarawa, a 20-year-old from Waciwaci, Lakeba in Lau, was crowned the new queen of the Vodafone Sugar Festival 2024 after a week filled with lively activities and a commitment to charitable causes. Currently studying law at the University of Fiji, Vani expressed her gratitude during Saturday night’s ceremony, stating, “Words are not enough to express how grateful I am.”
Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledged the support from numerous individuals who helped her and her fellow contestants navigate the challenges they faced. Vani, who is sponsored by a travel consultancy, utilized her new platform to advocate for religious groups to enhance their efforts in combating illicit drug use. She noted how churches have expanded their roles to support affected youth by offering safe spaces and essential social services.
Farheen Saheb, the Chief Financial Officer of Vodafone, was the chief guest at the event and emphasized the festival’s dedication to charity. She remarked, “Charity for the needy is not just a theme for this festival; it reminds us of our shared responsibility to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate and to work towards a more inclusive society.”
