After a week filled with lively activities and a commitment to charitable efforts, 20-year-old Vani Dianilawe Tobakarakarawa was crowned the new queen of the Vodafone Sugar Festival 2024.
Originating from Waciwaci, Lakeba, in Lau, and with maternal roots in Yalobi, Waya, in Yasawa, Vani, a law student at the University of Fiji, was still absorbing the significance of her win on Saturday night.
“Words cannot capture my gratitude,” she shared. “The journey has been challenging, but many incredible people have supported and guided me and my fellow contestants to reach this point.”
With sponsorship from Travel Consultant and Tours, Vani took this opportunity to advocate for religious organizations to join the fight against illicit drugs.
“Churches have expanded their roles to welcome and support affected youths, offering a safe space and vital social assistance,” she explained.
Farheen Saheb, Vodafone’s Chief Financial Officer and chief guest at the event, underscored the festival’s charity focus.
“Charity for the needy is more than just a theme for this festival; it serves as a reminder of our collective duty to lend a hand to those in need and to strive for a more inclusive society,” Ms. Saheb stated.
