Vandalism Threatens Safety on Fiji’s Queen Elizabeth Drive

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has reported a series of vandalism and theft incidents just months after completing the $62.944 million Queen Elizabeth Drive Road Project in Suva. Following a recent inspection, FRA noted multiple instances of damaged street lights and the alleged theft of crucial garden light cables.

Atunaisa Nayago, chairperson of the FRA, expressed concern over these unlawful acts, highlighting their impact on public safety. He pointed out that the compromised street lights and the absence of cables pose significant risks to both drivers and pedestrians, potentially leading to accidents and injuries.

“The FRA emphasizes that such illegal actions may result in legal repercussions for those involved,” Mr. Nayago stated. He also urged the public to take pride in their communities and respect public property.

Mr. Nayago underscored that damage to road infrastructure undermines efforts to maintain a safe and well-illuminated environment for all. He called on the community to help protect the country’s infrastructure, emphasizing that keeping roads secure and operational is a collective responsibility that affects everyone’s welfare.
