Vandalism Hits Fiji’s New Road Project: A Call to Action for Safety

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has reported incidents of vandalism and theft occurring shortly after the completion of the $62.944 million Queen Elizabeth Drive Road Project in Suva. A recent inspection revealed that multiple street lights have been damaged and important garden light cables have reportedly been stolen.

FRA chairperson Atunaisa Nayago emphasized that these unlawful activities pose serious risks to public safety. He noted that the impairment of street lights and the absence of cables heighten the danger for both drivers and pedestrians, resulting in an increased likelihood of accidents and injuries.

Nayago stated, “The FRA highlights that such illegal actions could lead to legal consequences for those involved,” while urging the public to take pride in their community and respect public property.

He further remarked that acts of vandalism and theft not only jeopardize community safety but also hinder the efforts to maintain a safe and well-illuminated environment. Nayago called on the community to help protect the latest infrastructure developments across the nation.

“We must collaborate to ensure our roads are safe and functional,” he asserted, adding that protecting public property is a collective responsibility that affects everyone’s well-being.
