Police are currently investigating a disturbing act of vandalism at the Sri Shiva Subrahmanya Swami Temple, commonly referred to as Tagitagi Temple, located in Tavua. This morning, the temple priest arrived to discover the destruction of a sacred shivling, which had been forcibly removed from its place and subsequently destroyed.

According to Dev Siga Mani, the temple’s treasurer, the shivling, which weighs between 30 and 40 kilograms, was embedded in a cement structure at the temple. He reported that the perpetrators allegedly breached the temple’s fence, dragged the shivling onto the road, vandalized it, and left fragments scattered along the highway leading up to a nearby bridge, before discarding the remaining pieces into the river.

In a heartfelt plea, Mani urged for tolerance, stating, “If they are following the religions, please don’t do this, because all religions are one, all races are just following God, but we are not disturbing anybody.” The sacred nature of the temple, which is a place of worship for many, highlights the importance of respecting all religions.

Authorities are on the scene, and an investigation is actively being conducted to apprehend those responsible for this unacceptable act of destruction. This incident has sparked outrage within the community, emphasizing the need for unity and respect among diverse faiths and cultures.
