Value City successfully raised approximately $67,000 for WOWS Kids Fiji over a six-week period through a variety of fundraising initiatives. Managing Director Vera Chute highlighted the significance of collective responsibility during the cheque handover event, emphasizing the challenges faced by Fijian children and their families.
The fundraising efforts included the sale of food packs, weekly kati, raffles, and kava barrels. Ms. Chute noted that the remarkable contributions from staff amounted to $26,539.90, which was subsequently matched by Value City, bringing the total to $53,079.80. Additionally, a morning tea event held in early September for suppliers, service providers, and associates raised another $14,537.25, resulting in a grand total of $67,617.05.
A key partner in this year’s efforts was Essity, which provided an in-kind donation valued at $5,000. This included essential items like tissues, sanitary pads, diapers, and sanitizers for the WOWS Kids Centre.
Ms. Chute praised the work of WOWS Kids Fiji and expressed hope that the funds raised would further their mission to deliver life-saving treatments and essential care to affected children and their families. She called for ongoing efforts to bring hope to these brave young warriors and their families, reinforcing the message of support and solidarity within the community.
This initiative not only showcases the power of community engagement but also reflects a growing commitment to support vulnerable populations, underscoring the importance of social responsibility in enhancing lives.
In summary, such generous acts can instill hope and make a significant impact in the lives of those facing serious challenges, reminding us of our ability to create positive change together.
