Vakatawa Trains With Fijian Drua In Offseason Stint

Fijian Drua Chief Executive Mark Evans has addressed the current status of former France rugby international Virimi Vakatawa, confirming that the esteemed center is engaged with the club under a short-term training arrangement. Evans noted that Vakatawa sustained a minor injury over the weekend, but he will continue to train with the Drua until Christmas as part of an extended offseason preparation phase.

Evans emphasized, “V obviously played and actually picked up a bit of an injury at the weekend. He’s training with us until Christmas, and that’s where we are with that, really.” When pressed about rumors regarding Vakatawa’s potential signing, Evans dismissed these claims and highlighted that no final decision had been reached regarding a contract.

The Fijian Drua is currently in the midst of their Sun Belt pre-season campaign, diligently refining their preparations for their upcoming pre-season match against the provincial Select side. The training collaboration with Vakatawa not only adds depth to the player roster but is also expected to inspire and motivate the current players as they gear up for the season.

Vakatawa’s involvement mirrors the Drua’s recent strategy of integrating experienced players, similar to Vuate Karawalevu’s recent joining from the NSW Waratahs. The combination of seasoned professionals and emerging talent is poised to elevate the team’s performance in the competitive rugby landscape.

As the Fijian Drua continues to bolster their squad with players who have rich international backgrounds, this underscores their commitment to nurturing a strong rugby culture that resonates with the pride and passion of Fijian rugby. With Vakatawa’s training period coinciding with the offseason, both the player and team are set to benefit from this engagement as they look forward to a promising upcoming season.
