Vakatawa Hypes Prep as Malolo Chase Historic Skipper Cup Final

Former French international rugby player, Virimi Vakatawa, has highlighted the importance of thorough preparation for his team as they head into the Skipper Cup final against Malolo today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Vakatawa expressed excitement about the matchup while emphasizing that they cannot underestimate Malolo’s capabilities.

Malolo, who has been nicknamed “giant slayers” this season, has been on an inspiring journey in the tournament, with dramatic victories paving the way to their first-ever appearance in a Skipper Cup final. The team’s president, Ratu Jone Tuilawa, noted that Malolo’s preparation has continued consistently as they gear up for this historic clash. The squad has received significant support from their local community, adding to their motivation on the field.

Vakatawa, familiar with several players on the opposing side, acknowledged their talent and the strong coaching behind Malolo, stating, “We know Malolo has a very good team and a good coaching staff, and I know what they can bring to the table.” The anticipation for this grand final is palpable, not just for the teams but for rugby fans across Fiji.

In addition to the senior final at 3 PM, two other finals will take place earlier in the day—the Suva versus Namosi match for the Marama Championship title at 11 AM, and the Under-20 final between Nadi and Naitasiri at 1 PM. All three matches will be broadcast live on FBC 2, promising a day filled with thrilling rugby action.

The upcoming finals encapsulate the vibrant spirit of provincial rugby in Fiji, where teams and their communities come together in the shared pursuit of glory. With both Naitasiri looking to end a long title drought since their last championship win in 2010 and Malolo eager to make their mark, today’s showdown is set to be a memorable occasion in the annals of Fijian rugby history.
