USP Suva’s Rugby Triumph: A Promising Start in Fiji University Games

The USP Suva under 20 rugby team launched their campaign in the Fiji University Games by defeating FNU West with a score of 10-7 at the USP grounds in Suva. The team secured their win with tries from John Waqabaca and captain Matia Daoro.

Following the match, Daoro reflected on the challenging nature of the game, describing it as intense and showcasing impressive skill and agility from both teams. He encouraged his teammates to persevere and deliver their best performance, particularly during a tough first half.

“In the second half, we focused on communicating effectively on the field, urging our forwards to collaborate in executing our game plan to secure a victory for the team,” Daoro stated. He underscored the significance of communication among teammates moving forward, highlighting the need to improve their defense for upcoming matches.

In other results from the rugby tournament, which concluded yesterday, FNU Central claimed victory over USP Suva, successfully defending their title in the men’s division. The FNU Central women’s team also triumphed against USP Suva, winning 17-0. The Fiji University Games, previously referred to as the inter-tertiary competition, wrapped up yesterday.
