The USP Suva under 20 rugby team kicked off their Fiji University Games campaign with a narrow victory over FNU West, winning 10-7 at the USP grounds in Suva. The team secured the win with tries from John Waqabaca and captain Matia Daoro.
Following the match, Daoro reflected on the team’s performance, noting the intensity of the game that showcased impressive agility and skill from both sides. He remarked, “The first half was very difficult, I simply told the boys to man up and play our very best.”
In the second half, Daoro highlighted the importance of communication among players, instructing the forwards to work cohesively to execute their game plan and secure the victory. He emphasized that enhancing communication and improving their defense would be crucial for upcoming matches.
Meanwhile, the rugby tournament concluded with FNU Central defending their title by defeating USP Suva in the men’s category. In the women’s category, FNU Central also triumphed over USP Suva with a 17-0 victory. The Fiji University Games, previously known as the inter-tertiary competition, wrapped up yesterday.
