USP Suva Kicks Off Fiji University Games with Thrilling Victory!

The USP Suva under-20 rugby team secured a narrow victory over FNU West, winning 10-7 in their opening match of the Fiji University Games held at the USP grounds in Suva. The home team took the lead with tries from John Waqabaca and captain Matia Daoro.

After the match, Daoro reflected on the intensity of the game, noting that both teams showcased impressive agility and skill to captivate the audience. “The first half was very difficult, I simply told the boys to man up and play our very best,” he stated. In the second half, the team focused on communication and collaboration among the forwards to implement their game plan effectively.

Daoro highlighted the necessity of good communication within the team moving forward. He mentioned, “The main thing for us as we move forward is communication from within. We needed to work on our defence for the matches ahead.”

The tournament concluded yesterday with FNU Central triumphing over USP Suva, successfully defending their title in the men’s category. In the women’s category, FNU Central also emerged victorious against USP Suva, dominating their hosts with a 17-0 win. The Fiji University Games, previously known as the inter-tertiary competition, wrapped up its events yesterday.
