The USP Suva under 20 rugby team kicked off their Fiji University Games campaign with a narrow victory over FNU West, winning 10-7 at the USP grounds in Suva. The home team secured their lead thanks to tries from John Waqabaca and captain Matia Daoro.
Following a post-match warm-down, Daoro reflected on the intense nature of the game and praised his team’s determination. He noted, “The first half was very difficult; I simply told the boys to man up and give it our all.”
In the second half, Daoro emphasized the importance of team communication, instructing his forwards to collaborate effectively to implement their game plan and secure the win. He added, “The key for us moving forward is communication within the team. We need to improve our defense for upcoming matches.”
The rugby tournament concluded with FNU Central successfully defending their title in the men’s category by defeating USP Suva. In the women’s competition, FNU Central also triumphed over USP Suva with a decisive 17-0 victory. The Fiji University Games, previously known as the inter-tertiary competition, came to an end yesterday.
