USP Students’ Association Stays Neutral Amid Controversy

The University of the South Pacific Students’ Association (USPSA) has announced that it will refrain from intervening in the dispute between the university management and a recently terminated employee, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal procedures for any necessary redress.

Lepani Naqarase, the Association’s President, affirmed their commitment to respecting the protocols established in the university’s Ordinances and Statutes, as well as those from the USP Council.

In response to concerns raised by some members, Naqarase explained that executives from USPSA, including representatives from the Laucala Branch, engaged in discussions with senior management, including the Vice-Chancellor and other key officials, to address the needs of affected students.

The Association also held meetings with students impacted by the situation to listen to their concerns. Naqarase emphasized that the primary focus of the USPSA is to promote and safeguard the overall welfare of its student body.

Following their discussions, the USPSA expressed satisfaction with the arrangements management has established to ensure uninterrupted services to affected students. Naqarase stated that the Association will continue to monitor the agreed-upon arrangements with the management and maintain ongoing communication with university leaders, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia.
