USP Makes Remarkable Leap in Global University Rankings

The University of the South Pacific (USP) has advanced 200 positions in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. The university is now classified within the 801–1000 range, solidifying its status as the leading institution for higher education in the region.

Among over 20,000 global universities listed in the International Handbook of Universities, only about 8 percent achieve ranking by THE. This notable accomplishment highlights USP as the only university in the region to be recognized among this distinguished group of the world’s top universities.

The 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings evaluated 2,092 institutions from 115 countries, utilizing various performance indicators including teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia stated that this significant rise in the rankings showcases USP’s commitment to providing quality education and impactful research for the Pacific region.

“This is a significant achievement for our regional university and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff in delivering quality, world-ranked education—our region deserves nothing less. Improving our ranking by 200 places is a remarkable accomplishment, particularly as more universities enter this competitive process each year. Our staff, students, alumni, member governments, and stakeholders should all take great pride in the progress we are making towards achieving this global recognition of our quality and excellence.”
