The University of the South Pacific (USP) Council is set to convene later this month in the Cook Islands to address allegations directed at Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro confirmed this development while stating that the council will also establish the ‘Terms of Reference’ for the ongoing investigation.
In addition, the council will review the current status of the Pro-Chancellor position, which is presently held in an acting capacity by Dr. Heila Heine. The Minister noted that a preliminary round of voting regarding the appointment has already occurred, with a second round anticipated soon.
“This is an important meeting that council members are awaiting,” Radrodro remarked, adding that the Acting Pro-Chancellor, the Secretariat, and legal advisors will provide necessary updates on the Pro-Chancellor appointment status.
This situation, while challenging, exhibits the university’s commitment to transparency and governance. As the council takes steps to resolve these allegations and solidify its leadership structure, it offers a chance for renewal and strengthening of the institution’s integrity.
Summary: The USP Council will meet to investigate allegations against Professor Pal Ahluwalia and finalize the Pro-Chancellor position amid ongoing leadership evaluations.
