The University of the South Pacific (USP) Council is scheduled to convene later this month in the Cook Islands to address serious allegations concerning Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro confirmed this information, stating that the council will also establish the ‘Terms of Reference’ for the investigation.

In addition, the meeting will provide clarity on the role of the Pro-Chancellor of the university, with Dr. Heila Heine currently serving in an acting capacity. Minister Radrodro noted that the first round of voting related to the appointment has been completed, and a second round is forthcoming.

“This is something that all council members are waiting on, along with the Acting Pro-Chancellor and the Secretariat, who are eager to receive legal advice to inform members about the Pro-Chancellor’s appointment status,” Radrodro added.

This meeting presents an important opportunity for the USP Council to ensure accountability and transparency within the university’s leadership. As discussions progress, there is hope that the outcomes will lead to a more stable and well-defined governance structure for the institution. By addressing these allegations and clarifying roles, the council can work towards rebuilding trust and confidence within the university community.
