The University of the South Pacific (USP) is set to hold its council meeting in the Cook Islands from November 23rd to 25th. During this meeting, a significant part of the agenda will focus on staff-related issues, particularly in response to recent protests.

Mr. Radrodro, who addressed inquiries on Friday, emphasized that discussions would revolve around critical topics such as the appointment of the university’s visitor and the position of the Pro-Chancellor. This follows recent unrest from the USP Staff Union and the Association of the University of the South Pacific Staff, who staged a strike last month, citing concerns over the leadership of Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia.

These developments present an opportunity for the council to address grievances and work towards solutions that could enhance the overall working environment at USP. It is crucial for the council to engage constructively with staff concerns moving forward, aiming for a collaborative approach that fosters positive change within the university.

As this meeting approaches, it is hopeful that productive dialogue will pave the way for improved relations and a strengthened institution, ultimately benefiting the students and staff at USP.
